I'm no computer whiz by any means but have just found out that putting new memory into your computer is a 10 minute job at most.

My neighbor did it and said it made their computer as fast as when new.

I have a Dell......so I called them and the sales guy told me what to buy and where to watch a video on their site on how to do it.

This memory.....which is called RAM memory, is just this skinny little flat plastic very technical looking thing that snaps in and out on the inside of your computer.

And was I amazed at how much dirt had accumulated in there too!

So 4-5 years ago I started with 512 MB mega bytes of RAM. If you double the 512 you get 1024 MB which is 1 GB....Giggabyte (don't know how to spell that).

I bought 2 GB's, or 2048 MB of RAM.....$79. So if it took 4-5 years for my computer to clog up and grind to a halt with the original 512 MB........I must be good to go for a long time now considering I'm on the computer a lot.

My pc is running almost like new.

Hope this info helps somebody.

Hi PM, I agree. I took mine from 512 to 2.5 gigabytes and it helps when running a bunch of programs simultaneously. Often in small stores, they will install it while you wait, or as you said, it is a snap to do it yourself.

oh, thank you, thank you, for reminding me to do this. I can only upgrade to 1 Gb, but that's better than wallowing in the "dial-up" speeds of 512Mb. The laptop's lucky I haven't hurled it through the window.
