Beja Shrine Circus

The lions have arrived, joined by monkeys, elephants and others at the Beja Shrine Circus this weekend at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena in Ashwaubenon.

Preparing for the Circus

"Springfield is one of the many places we go. It's one of the most exciting because it's one of the most difficult. The Shrine Mosque is a very hard facility to get into and get out of, but once we are in the building and people fill it up, every seat is a ring side seat." says George Carden, the owner of the circus.

The circus spectacle returns

With Alberto Valencia as ringmaster, the circus — which opens with the national anthem and closes with a grand finale salute to the United States — also features many returning favorites, Clay says, including David Zoppe's Rhesus Monkey Revue, Susan Sheryll's Royal Afghans, the Carden elephants, jugglers, and antics provided by the circus clowns.

I drive by this exit on my way to Hohenwald. I knew they had the circus here last year and wondered when it would be back.

The circus, which has visited Shelbyville the last two Octobers, is presented by Missouri-based George Carden Circus International. Carden is the fifth generation in his family to be involved in show business and is a lifelong veteran of the circus. He started his own production in 1981 and later merged it with his father Larry's circus. Carden has three circus units traveling the country, based on a 20-acre farm in Missouri between Springfield and Willard. The circus travels over 40,000 miles each year in the U.S. and Canada during its 42-week season.

Does anybody know where Judy with George Carden Circus is? I can't find her. Is she still alive?
