Tomorrow sees the move of five of our Nursery orphans down to Tsavo. Moving so many at once takes quite some coordination, especially when 2 are heading to join old friends at Voi (Kenia and Shira) and 3 are off to the Ithumba stockades (Naimina, Meibai and Enasoit). Lets all keep our fingers crossed for an uneventful day and some cooperative elephants in the morning!

And with Sala, Pesi and Bhaawa, who are fighting to survive ...... -------------------- Captivity may dull their senses and challenge their resolve, but the elephant inside is always there and emerges effortlessly at the slightest opportunity. Happy update from DSWT Facebook, 4th November 2009
Naimina, Meibai and Enesoit have safely arrived at the Ithumba stockades, while Kenia and Shira has reached Voi and been reunited with old friends. Now the next stage in their rehabilitation can continue, as with your help we return them to the wild where they belong. http://te-in.facebook.com/pages/The-David-...05694888?v=info -------------------- Captivity may dull their senses and challenge their resolve, but the elephant inside is always there and emerges effortlessly at the slightest opportunity. The move of Kenia and Shira to Voi, and Enesoit, Meibai and Naimina to Ithumba - 11/8/2009
For weeks 3 large Safari vehicles had been parked against the Loading Bays at the Trust’s Nairobi Infant Elephant Nursery, awaiting the first rains in TSAVO in order to be able to move 5 of the older Nursery inmates to the two Reintegration Centers in TSAVO East National Park. There they would embark on the journey back into the wild elephant community within a large Protected Area that would offer them the space an elephant needs for a quality of life, a journey that will take at least another 5 – 8 years before they become independent of their elephant Keepers, for elephants lives duplicate our own. Five of the Nursery inmates were now old and fit enough to be upgraded, and it was also urgent to free up space in the Nursery for others sure to be brought in as a result of what has been probably the worst and most severe drought in the history of the country. http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/upda...ates.asp?ID=245 -------------------- " Many people think that conservation is just saving fluffy animals - what they don't realize is that conservation is war to prevent the human race from committing suicide.
